Fans have been buzzing on social media after spotting what Harvey Elliott posted during Liverpool’s clash with Aston Villa.
On Saturday night, Premier League champions Liverpool hosted Villa at Anfield as they looked to bounce back from a run of four straight defeats. Arne Slot’s side were determined to reignite their title defence, while Villa aimed to extend their strong recent form.
In the end, it was a comfortable 2–0 win for the Reds, thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah and Ryan Gravenberch.
During the match, Elliott — currently on loan at Villa from Liverpool — shared an Instagram story showing him watching the game, accompanied by two heart emojis. The 22-year-old was unavailable for selection as he couldn’t face his parent club.
Liverpool fans were quick to react online. One joked, “Heart caption when we’re on the attack. Recall immediately.” Another quipped, “He celebrated Salah’s goal, I just can’t prove it.” A third added, “He’s 10000% cheering for us.”
Others called for his return, writing comments like “Terminate Harvey’s loan and bring him back to Anfield, man,” and “Can he come back, please?”
Since joining Villa Park in the summer, Elliott has struggled for consistent minutes, featuring just five times and totalling 167 minutes across all competitions — though he has managed one goal. Reports claim his loan deal includes a £35 million obligation to buy, but it only activates if he reaches ten appearances.
Last weekend, the midfielder was also left out of the squad for Villa’s 1–0 win over Manchester City.
When asked about his decision, manager Unai Emery explained:
> “In the squad we needed one player to take out, and I decided him. I am happy with him — he’s training well and his commitment is fantastic. It was a tactical decision.
I spoke with him about it and told him to keep going. He’s a very good player, but our demands are high. Some players are performing at a top level in his position. We signed him because I believe in him — he just needs time.”
