Fans have taken to social media to share their thoughts after spotting Harvey Elliott’s post during Liverpool’s clash with Aston Villa.

On Saturday night, Premier League champions Liverpool hosted Villa at Anfield, aiming to bounce back after four consecutive defeats. Arne Slot’s side managed to do just that, earning a comfortable 2-0 win thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah and Ryan Gravenberch.

Elliott, who is currently on loan at Villa from Liverpool, was ineligible to play against his parent club. During the match, he posted an Instagram story showing himself watching the game, captioned with two heart emojis.

Liverpool supporters quickly noticed the post and began reacting online. One joked, “Heart caption when we’re on the attack. Recall immediately.” Another said, “He definitely celebrated Salah’s goal—I just can’t prove it.” A third added, “He’s 10000% cheering for us,” while others urged Liverpool to “terminate his loan” and “bring him back.”

Since joining Villa in the summer, the 22-year-old has struggled for consistent minutes, making just five appearances (167 minutes total) and scoring once. His loan deal reportedly includes a £35 million obligation to buy, but only if he reaches 10 appearances—something that now looks uncertain.

Elliott was also omitted from Villa’s squad for their 1-0 win over Manchester City last weekend.

When asked about leaving Elliott out, manager Unai Emery explained: “We needed to remove one player from the squad and I chose him. I’m happy with him—he trains well, his attitude is fantastic. It was purely a tactical decision. I told him to keep going; he’s a very good player. Our demands are very high, and others in his position are performing well. We signed him because I believe in him—he just needs time.”
