Steven Gerrard issues warning to Arne Slot following Liverpool’s victory over Aston Villa…
Gerrard stressed that Arne Slot and his Liverpool squad shouldn’t feel safe just yet, cautioning that the pressure will be back on if they fail to get a good result against Real Madrid in Tuesday’s Champions League clash.
“I think he’s handled the past few weeks really well,” the former Liverpool captain told TNT Sports. “He’s stayed calm under heavy pressure, and so have his players — but that’s what’s expected at Liverpool, especially after winning the league.
“You can’t get comfortable or rely on past success. It’s about pushing for the next goal. He’s done an excellent job, and this win is a big one, but new challenges come fast. In two days, he’ll be under pressure again to beat Real Madrid.”
Gerrard also praised two key players, saying they were vital to Liverpool’s performance. “We told them before the game they needed to step up, and they did exactly that.”
After the match, Slot praised his players’ determination in earning a strong result against Unai Emery’s side.
“I think everyone understood how important this game was — both the players and the supporters,” he told TNT Sports. “We’ve conceded early in recent matches, and today we nearly did again when they hit the post. But I think both the fans and players felt this was their moment to show what they’re made of.
“The margins in the Premier League are always small — every match is tight. Right now, things are falling our way, but it’s all about maintaining that same approach.”
