Xabi Alonso has announced his squad, with the two Real Madrid players set for an emotional return to Anfield.

For many supporters, this match was already huge – but with both Xabi Alonso and Trent Alexander-Arnold set to step back onto the Anfield pitch, the emotion around it has gone up another level.

Real Madrid have officially revealed their squad for Tuesday night’s Champions League showdown, as confirmed on realmadrid.com, and it features both the former Liverpool midfielder and the full-back who swapped Merseyside for Madrid in the summer.

Alonso’s players trained at Valdebebas earlier today before flying to England, going through pressing drills, tactical preparation and shooting sessions.

Antonio Rudiger, David Alaba and Dani Carvajal have not travelled due to injury, while young talent Mastantuono trained separately indoors.

The 22-man travelling group includes Mbappe, Bellingham, Vinicius Jr, Endrick and Trent Alexander-Arnold, and is scheduled to arrive in Liverpool later today.

For Alonso, it marks yet another emotional return to the stadium where he helped create one of the greatest nights in the club’s history – the miracle of Istanbul in 2005.

This comes after Trent’s recent interview with Amazon Prime Video Sport in which he insisted: “No matter what, my feelings won’t change towards Liverpool.” A line that has only intensified the anticipation ahead of his reception on matchday.

On the Liverpool side, there’s mixed team news: journalist Paul Joyce has reported Curtis Jones is back available, but Alexander Isak is a doubt after missing Monday’s session at Kirkby.
