Djed Spence looks certain to face the axe at Tottenham, and Thomas Frank has every reason to be furious with him.

Djed Spence may have angered more than just Tottenham fans with his behavior after their narrow defeat to Chelsea.

Tottenham were beaten 1-0 by the Blues on Saturday, November 1, with Joao Pedro scoring the decisive goal in a closely contested London derby. The result lifted Chelsea to sixth in the Premier League standings. Things could have been worse for Spurs had referee Jarred Gillett shown Rodrigo Bentancur a red card for his reckless tackle on Reece James, though the midfielder was fortunate to escape with only a yellow.

Emotions were running high at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after the final whistle, especially following their recent Carabao Cup exit to Newcastle United. Yet one player seems to have made matters worse with his conduct at full-time.

Both Spence and Micky van de Ven walked straight down the tunnel instead of staying to applaud the supporters, shake hands, or reflect on the match. Spence, however, took things further—he appeared to shove away Thomas Frank’s attempt to speak with him and launched into a heated outburst, all caught on camera by a fan still in the stands.

Although Spence is still in contention for an England call-up ahead of next year’s World Cup, Thomas Tuchel’s recent squad selections suggest that ego and attitude issues are unlikely to be tolerated.

Meanwhile, Destiny Udogie is expected to be fit to face Copenhagen. The full-back has featured sparingly this season, starting just three league matches and playing 17 minutes against Chelsea.

Under Ange Postecoglou, Udogie and Pedro Porro formed a solid partnership, but with Spence’s growing maturity and improved performances, competition at full-back has intensified. Still, after the public snub from two players, Frank may use the upcoming Champions League clash to reassert his authority—potentially at Spence’s expense, with Udogie waiting for his chance to reclaim a starting role.
