“Bobby Firmino has hinted that Jurgen Klopp will eventually make a return, saying, ‘He’s going to go back.’”

Bobby Firmino has offered an interesting prediction about his former Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp.

It’s been a year and a half since the German coach brought an end to his near 10-year spell at Anfield, stepping away from management to take a break before later accepting a role as Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer.

Klopp, now 58, coached Firmino for almost his entire Liverpool career, and the Al Sadd forward is convinced that his old manager will eventually return to the demands of club football.

Firmino expects Klopp to manage again

Speaking to Flashscore, Firmino fondly looked back on his time working with Klopp and suggested that the ex-Liverpool boss won’t stay away from the touchline forever.

The 34-year-old said:

“He was the best manager I ever had. I have incredible memories and I’m grateful for everything I learned from him.

I think he’s just taking a break. I believe he’ll go back to coaching a club. Whether that’s Liverpool or not, only he knows.”

Could Klopp return to club football?

Just a couple of weeks ago, Klopp refused to close the door on a potential Anfield comeback one day, even though he admitted he doesn’t miss the everyday intensity of management.

When he announced his Liverpool exit in 2024, he openly admitted he was “running out of energy” after 23 straight years in the dugout.

Firmino – who played more games under Klopp than anyone else (355, per Transfermarkt) – likely has as good a read as anyone on the German’s mindset, so his comments shouldn’t be taken lightly.

A return to management from Klopp isn’t unthinkable, though he’d surely only accept a job that truly inspires him. With his reputation, he can afford to wait for the perfect project.

For now, Liverpool are in safe hands with Arne Slot, but if Klopp ever decides to return, any club would be lucky to have him – because he still has plenty to offer the game.
