Watch the message Alexis Mac Allister immediately sent to Trent after Liverpool’s goal

Alexis Mac Allister seemed to aim a playful message at Trent Alexander-Arnold after finding the net against Real Madrid.
The Argentine midfielder bagged the only goal of the match, heading in Dominik Szoboszlai’s free-kick just after the hour mark at Anfield.
Liverpool were up against Xabi Alonso’s Real Madrid in the Champions League group stage, fresh off a 5-1 victory over Frankfurt in Germany.
Mac Allister copies Trent’s celebration
The 25-year-old added an extra twist to the occasion as he not only scored the winning goal, but also appeared to mimic Alexander-Arnold’s old Liverpool celebration straight after putting the Reds in front.
Footage and images shared on X (formerly Twitter) show Mac Allister making the same hand gesture Trent used to regularly perform during his time at Anfield – a light-hearted nod that likely amused the home crowd and added to Trent’s frustration on a difficult night.
It was all in good humour, though, with nothing malicious behind the gesture from the World Cup winner, and it certainly drew a positive reaction from the Liverpool supporters.
How good was Mac Allister against Real Madrid?
Thibaut Courtois pulled off eight saves in the match – four from inside the box – yet only Mac Allister managed to beat him.
Sofascore handed the midfielder a 7.6/10, though many would argue he deserved higher given his impact on both sides of the pitch.

A superb, all-action midfield display from the ex-Brighton star, who combined both creativity and defensive work. His performance was a reminder of exactly what Liverpool have lacked for much of the 2025/26 campaign.
