Liverpool star criticised and forced to delete Trent-related post following Real Madrid victory
A Liverpool player has deleted an Instagram story about Trent Alexander-Arnold following the Reds’ Champions League victory over Real Madrid.
After ending their poor run of form with a 2-0 win against Aston Villa, Liverpool hosted their European rivals Real Madrid at Anfield. The game was decided by a superb header from Alexis Mac Allister and solid defensive displays from Andrew Robertson and Conor Bradley.
Much of the pre-match discussion focused on the controversial return of Trent Alexander-Arnold, who had left Liverpool for Real Madrid in a £10 million move back in May before his contract expired. Unsurprisingly, many Reds supporters made it clear they weren’t ready to welcome him back warmly.
Among those caught in the middle was Curtis Jones, a close friend and former teammate of Alexander-Arnold from their academy days. Before kick-off, Jones shared an Instagram story showing the pair laughing together in the tunnel — a gesture that didn’t go down well with fans.
Supporters quickly voiced their disapproval on social media, with one writing, “Every time I start to warm to him, he does something to p*** me off,” while another added, “This guy can never read the room.” Facing the backlash, Jones deleted the story shortly after.
Meanwhile, during the match, Alexis Mac Allister appeared to take a subtle dig at Alexander-Arnold when he scored the winning goal. The Argentine ran toward the Real Madrid bench and mimicked Trent’s signature celebration — crossing one finger horizontally over two fingers pointing down. However, some fans believe the gesture was actually dedicated to his daughter, Alaia.
