Report: Liverpool emerge as frontrunners to sign Premier League star after Real Madrid ruled out of the race
Liverpool have reportedly moved into pole position to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, with Real Madrid now effectively out of the running.
The England international’s current contract with Palace is nearing its end, meaning he’ll be available as a free agent next summer.
According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool remain optimistic about securing Guehi’s signature after narrowly missing out on him during the summer transfer window.
Spanish outlet AS adds that Liverpool are still the most likely destination for the 25-year-old despite competition from other clubs. Real Madrid, meanwhile, are said to have withdrawn from the race due to the defender’s high wage demands.
While Bayern Munich are also keeping an eye on Guehi, the report suggests the player’s focus remains firmly on a move to Anfield.
Liverpool came close to completing the deal earlier this year before Palace pulled the plug at the final stages, but it appears Guehi could finally get his dream move to Merseyside.
Interestingly, AS also note that Madrid are monitoring Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konate, who, like Guehi, is entering the final phase of his contract.
Should Konate decide not to renew, replacing him with Guehi—another Premier League-proven defender—could represent smart business for the Reds. Guehi’s consistency and composure at the back would make him a seamless fit in Arne Slot’s defence.
