Liverpool are reportedly in pole position to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, with Real Madrid now seemingly out of the race.

The England international is nearing the end of his Palace contract and will be available on a free transfer next summer. According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool remain confident of securing his signature despite failing to land him during the last transfer window.

Spanish outlet AS adds that Liverpool are still the most likely destination for Guehi, as a move to Madrid is now seen as unrealistic due to his high wage demands. While Bayern Munich are also mentioned as potential suitors, the Reds appear to be leading the chase.

Liverpool were reportedly close to completing a deal for the 25-year-old last summer before Palace pulled the plug at the last moment. Now, Guehi seems determined to make the move to Anfield.

Interestingly, AS also links Real Madrid with a move for Ibrahima Konate, another Liverpool centre-back nearing the end of his contract. Should Konate depart, bringing in Guehi on a free transfer could represent smart business for Liverpool, as the Palace star offers proven Premier League quality and could seamlessly fill the Frenchman’s role.
