Report: Liverpool emerge as frontrunners to sign Premier League star with Real Madrid move now ruled out

Liverpool are now believed to be in pole position to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, with Real Madrid seemingly no longer in contention.
The England international’s contract with Palace is nearing its end, making him available as a free agent next summer.
According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool remain confident of securing Guehi’s signature after their failed attempt to bring him in during the last transfer window. Reports from AS suggest the Reds are still his most likely destination, with Real Madrid backing out due to the centre-back’s wage demands.
Although Bayern Munich are also mentioned as potential suitors, Liverpool are seen as the frontrunners, with Guehi still intent on moving to Anfield.
The 25-year-old was close to joining the Reds in the summer before Palace pulled the plug late in negotiations, but he now looks set to finally complete the move.
Interestingly, AS also link Real Madrid with Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate, whose contract is also nearing expiry. Should Konate depart on a free, bringing in Guehi as a replacement would represent smart business for the Reds, as the Palace man offers similar quality and Premier League experience.
