Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso has reportedly handed the club a shortlist of four midfielders he wants to sign — including top talents from Liverpool and Chelsea.

Los Blancos suffered a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield in the Champions League this week, with Alexis Mac Allister netting the winner after a standout performance against Alonso’s side.

According to Fichajes, Alonso is now eager to bring the Argentina international to the Bernabéu as he looks to strengthen what he views as a weak spot in midfield. The report adds that Madrid had previously targeted Martin Zubimendi before his move to Arsenal, but Alonso’s focus has now shifted to Mac Allister, Enzo Fernández, Adam Wharton, and Vitinha.

Signing Mac Allister, however, would be no easy task. The 26-year-old has become a key figure at Liverpool, and the Reds will be reluctant to let him leave. Still, his ability to control play from midfield makes him a perfect fit for Alonso’s system.

Liverpool fans will be desperate to see him stay, especially after already losing Trent Alexander-Arnold to Madrid earlier this summer.

As for Madrid’s other options, Fernández, Wharton, and Vitinha could all strengthen the squad in different ways. Data from DataMB suggests that Vitinha stands out for his creativity and passing, though his importance to PSG makes a deal unlikely.

Wharton, on the other hand, may soon be ready to leave Crystal Palace for a bigger club, while Mac Allister’s strong defensive numbers make him the most complete option for Alonso’s midfield rebuild.
