Former football star Wesley Sneijder has issued a strong warning to Florian Wirtz ahead of the Premier League showdown between Manchester City and Liverpool, cautioning the young German about a worrying trend in his development.

Wirtz under scrutiny: Sneijder’s blunt message to Liverpool’s new signing

“You can perform well in your home country, but things can get tricky abroad. Dutch and German players often struggle to adapt, and I see that now with Florian Wirtz,” Sneijder said in an interview with AdventureGamers.com.

Liverpool spent around €125 million to bring the 22-year-old from Bayer Leverkusen last summer, but he’s yet to live up to expectations—recording just three assists and no goals in 15 appearances.

“When you arrive as a big star, you must immediately prove why the club invested in you. If you don’t, they’ll quickly lose interest,” Sneijder warned. “At a club like Liverpool, there’s no time to settle slowly. He needs to deliver now, or it could be over for him.”

Sneijder added, “He was a big name in Germany, but he still has to prove he can be one internationally. It’s about using him in positions where he can shine.”

Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola expressed his delight at managing his 1,000th game against Liverpool, calling it “a perfect occasion.”
