According to recent updates, Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven, who has impressed with his pace, power, and defensive intelligence, is close to agreeing a new deal in north London. The Dutchman—valued at around €100m (£87.9m)—was previously linked with Liverpool both in 2023 and more recently, but his current situation makes any transfer highly unlikely.
Transfer expert Graeme Bailey told TBR Football (via CaughtOffside) that extending Van de Ven’s contract is now “a key priority” for Spurs, with both sides happy to continue their partnership. The player is said to be “very settled” at the club and has formed one of the league’s best centre-back duos alongside Cristian Romero, whose own commitment to Tottenham has influenced Van de Ven’s stance.
The 24-year-old’s performances have only strengthened his position, recently grabbing headlines with a spectacular solo goal in the Champions League and setting a new record for the fastest sprint speed in Premier League history at 37.38 km/h.
Liverpool’s defensive improvement—thanks to Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté rediscovering form—offers some relief, but uncertainty over Konaté’s contract and Giovanni Leoni’s long-term injury mean reinforcements are still needed.
