Liverpool ready to offload 26-year-old after disastrous display against Man City

Liverpool’s struggles continued with a heavy 3-0 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday, and following that result, the club has reportedly reached a decision regarding Ibrahima Konate’s future.

The French defender’s contract at Anfield is set to expire next summer, and this has attracted interest from several top European sides, including Real Madrid. While Liverpool had initially been eager to renew his deal, that stance has weakened in recent weeks, and the club is now said to be open to letting the 26-year-old move on.

According to Football Insider, journalist Mick Brown reports that Liverpool are now prepared to part ways with Konate at the end of the season, believing they can bring in a stronger replacement.

“Liverpool are already exploring possible replacements for Konate,” Brown explained. “They’re confident they can find an upgrade, as concerns about his performances have been ongoing — and they were evident again against Man City. City deliberately allowed him possession and pressed him because he’s prone to errors, which shows how he’s viewed within the squad.

“The club feels there are better defenders available and won’t be too concerned if he leaves. Whether it’s Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, or another top club, Liverpool are already planning for a future without him if he doesn’t extend his deal.”

While the situation could still evolve, all signs point toward Konate’s departure from Liverpool in the coming months.
