How Tottenham really view Thomas Frank behind the scenes amid fan backlash and growing boos
Thomas Frank has experienced both highs and lows since taking over from Ange Postecoglou as Tottenham Hotspur manager last summer. The Danish coach enjoyed a bright start to life in North London, guiding Spurs to four wins from his first five Premier League matches. His side appeared disciplined defensively and kept pace with the league’s top contenders.
However, that early promise has begun to fade in recent weeks. Tottenham’s performances have dipped, with inconsistent results and a lack of creativity sparking concern among supporters.
Discontent has grown louder inside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where boos echoed after recent home games. Fans voiced frustration following the defeat to Chelsea, while Frank’s decision to substitute Xavi Simons against Manchester United was met with audible disapproval.
Despite the criticism, Tottenham’s hierarchy reportedly remain calm and fully supportive of Frank. According to Football Insider, the club’s board believe he is still the right man to lead the project and have no intention of considering a managerial change. Instead, they see the need for an adjustment in attacking approach to better suit the squad’s strengths and satisfy supporters.
Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, journalist Pete O’Rourke stated that there is “no panic” within the club regarding Frank’s position. He added that Spurs are confident in their direction under his leadership, noting that sitting fifth in the Premier League and remaining competitive in the Champions League is far from a crisis.
Nevertheless, Frank faces pressure to inject more attacking spark into his team. Tottenham’s leading scorer this season is defender Micky van de Ven, with six goals in all competitions — a clear sign of inefficiency in the forward line.
At Brentford, Frank’s teams were known for their attacking threat, regularly boosted by the goals of Ivan Toney, Bryan Mbeumo, and Yoane Wissa. Replicating that same fluidity and ruthlessness at Tottenham remains a key challenge as he works to win over supporters and solidify his long-term project.
