Sell-on Clause and Buyback Call – The Terms Tottenham Settled on in Troy Parrott’s Transfer
Tottenham Hotspur included a 20% sell-on clause when they sold Republic of Ireland star Troy Parrott to AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2024.
The forward has become one of Europe’s standout talking points after scoring twice in Ireland’s 2-0 win over Portugal and then producing a remarkable hat-trick — sealed with a late winner — in their 3-2 victory against Hungary on Sunday night.
His heroics completed a dramatic turnaround for Ireland, whose third straight win propelled them into a playoff for the 2026 World Cup, something that looked highly unlikely only weeks earlier.
Tottenham Added Sell-On Clause in Parrott Deal
Parrott was once viewed as a potential heir to Harry Kane at Spurs, but after five loan spells and limited senior opportunities, the club opted to move him on in 2024.
Tottenham sold him for £6.7m and, per Football London, inserted a 20% sell-on clause should the 23-year-old be transferred again.
A move could come sooner than expected given his electric international performances and strong scoring record for AZ. Despite some injury setbacks this season, Parrott has netted 13 goals in 14 appearances across all competitions, after scoring 20 in 47 the previous campaign.
That £6.7m fee is now looking like a bargain, with Everton among the Premier League clubs already linked with him.
Tottenham’s Buyback Stance on Parrott
As for a buyback option, Football London report that Tottenham did not include one in the agreement.
However, with Parrott being homegrown and Spurs holding a 20% sell-on clause, the club could still bring him back for a reduced fee in the future if circumstances allow.
Tottenham remain without a true long-term successor to Kane, with Dominic Solanke, Richarlison and loanee Randal Kolo Muani currently sharing the striker duties. If Parrott maintains his current form, he may well re-emerge as a future target for the north London side.
