Tottenham are pushing to sign Real Sociedad star and former Liverpool target Takefusa Kubo as they look to strengthen their options on the wings.

The Japan international has attracted Premier League interest before, with Everton pursuing him during the summer window.

Kubo has also been mentioned as a potential long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah at Liverpool, but Spurs are now stepping up their efforts to bring him to North London.

Football Insider sources say Tottenham plan to add both a striker and a winger in January to fix their inconsistent attack. One solution could be Kubo, whose release clause makes him an attainable target.

Speaking on the latest Inside Track podcast, it was revealed that the ex-Real Madrid winger would be an excellent fit for Ange Postecoglou’s side. Now in his fourth season with Real Sociedad, the 24-year-old might be tempted by a move to England, following the path of Japanese standouts like Shinji Kagawa and Kaoru Mitoma.

On the podcast, it was explained: “He’s been repeatedly linked with Premier League clubs — Tottenham, Liverpool, and even Aston Villa. He’s a top young player who has excelled at Real Sociedad, so it’s no shock that major European teams are watching him. His contract includes a release clause, so Spurs could get the deal done easily in January. It’s around £52 million — not cheap — and that will factor into Tottenham’s decision.”

Spurs’ renewed focus on Kubo appears to be influenced by Everton’s refusal to sell Iliman Ndiaye. Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that the Toffees consider Ndiaye crucial to their plans and are unwilling to let him leave despite Tottenham’s interest.

While Thomas Frank may continue tracking the former Sheffield United forward, Kubo looks like the more realistic option for Spurs at this stage.
