Tottenham Hotspur now face fresh competition from Manchester United and Atletico Madrid in their pursuit of a highly rated young Danish talent.

Thomas Frank’s side have lacked creativity in midfield this season, largely due to injuries to James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski. That shortage reportedly pushed Spurs to explore a move for exciting Danish prospect Victor Froholdt in the summer, though the 20-year-old ultimately joined Porto from Copenhagen.

Recent reports suggest Tottenham are preparing a January bid to bring Froholdt to north London just six months after his switch to Portugal. However, they are far from alone in the chase.
According to Fichajes, interest in the Denmark youngster has grown significantly thanks to his impressive form for both club and country.

Atletico Madrid are said to be leading the race, with Diego Simeone an admirer of the midfielder. Despite Froholdt’s €85m (£75m) release clause, the La Liga side reportedly believe they can secure him for far less. Manchester United have also entered the picture after receiving glowing scouting reports, and view the Porto player as a potential “centre-piece” of their midfield rebuild.

As for Porto, the report states the club recognise that the interest in Froholdt is real, but will only consider discussions if a “substantial” proposal arrives. For now, they are confident of keeping the youngster for at least another season.

Competition for his signature is expected to escalate further, with more clubs across Europe tipped to join the battle in the coming weeks.
