Tottenham have been informed that they need the £65 million-rated star even more urgently than Liverpool or Manchester City.

According to reports, Tottenham are eager to make a major attacking statement in January, with Thomas Frank pushing to bring in a top-quality wide forward.

Following a significant update from David Ornstein on Monday, Spurs have been given a huge opportunity to secure one of the Premier League’s most exciting attackers. Ornstein confirmed that a £65 million release clause in Antoine Semenyo’s contract becomes active in January, coinciding with weeks of speculation that the Bournemouth winger is high on Tottenham’s shortlist.

Clinton Morrison believes Tottenham need Semenyo more than any other interested club. Signing the 25-year-old won’t be easy, as Liverpool and Manchester City are both reportedly prepared to compete with Spurs for his signature.

Morrison argued that Tottenham’s need for the Ghanaian is far greater than that of either the Reds or City. When asked which Premier League club needs Semenyo the most, the former Crystal Palace striker told Sky Sports News (17/11/25 – 18:17):

“I think Tottenham need him the most, without a doubt. I thought he might go to Liverpool in the summer because of the Richard Hughes connection, but Man City already have lots of wide options and would have to move some players on. He needs to be playing every week. Tottenham need a wide player like Semenyo. Every team could use him, but looking ahead to January, I think Spurs will be the ones prepared to pay the fee. Man City and Liverpool are interested and he’s performing brilliantly. I just like him as a player—his personality, his confidence. He missed a penalty against Villa, but I’m sure he’ll step up again. He’s full of belief, he’s at a great age, and he has a huge future.”

Whether Spurs can beat their Premier League rivals to Semenyo remains uncertain. Manchester United are also said to be considering a move in January. Even so, Liverpool appear to pose the biggest threat, with suggestions that they see Semenyo as Mohamed Salah’s long-term successor.

Tottenham will face a major challenge in persuading Semenyo that moving to north London is the right next step for his career.
