Mikel Arteta has acknowledged that several key members of his squad remain sidelined, raising concerns that Arsenal may struggle to maintain the pace at the top of the table.
Speaking about Gabriel Jesus (via premierinjuries.com), Arteta said:
“It’s about making the steps day-by-day in a different surrounding. He’s been doing everything individually; now he’s training around highly competitive players again, so we’ll see how he adapts. But he’s full of energy.”
Jesus, however, is only one of a number of issues. Martin Ødegaard is still some way from a return:
“It is going in a steady direction, but he is some distance away.”
There is also caution surrounding Kai Havertz:
“We need to see how he responds to training with the group. Over the first few weeks, we’ll have to monitor him closely — his minutes and when we use him.”
Arsenal’s wide options are also depleted. Arteta admitted before the international break that Gabriel Martinelli, Viktor Gyökeres and Chukwunonso Madueke were all doubts:
“I cannot confirm all of them are out this weekend, but you’re not far off. They could be available after the break, but a lot needs to go right over the next two weeks.”
On top of that, their defensive stability is uncertain, with Gabriel Magalhães listed as having only a 25% chance of returning soon.

For Liverpool, Arsenal’s injury troubles present a potentially crucial advantage. While Arteta’s side navigate a depleted squad, Jürgen Klopp’s men can attempt to capitalise—especially with a relatively favourable run of fixtures.
Liverpool also have positive news of their own, with Alisson expected to return and further updates anticipated on Jeremie Frimpong, Stefan Bajčetic, and Jayden Danns.
Although Liverpool’s form has been inconsistent, a weakened Arsenal side could open the door for a strong push during the demanding Christmas schedule — historically a decisive period in title races.
