Fabrizio Romano shares major update on Antoine Semenyo’s future as Tottenham and Liverpool circle
Fabrizio Romano has shared what his sources are saying about the future of Tottenham Hotspur target Antoine Semenyo ahead of the January transfer window.
Talk around the Bournemouth winger has intensified after it was revealed this week that he has a £65 million release clause in his contract. Tottenham are among the leading contenders for his signature, but securing the deal will not be easy.
In recent days, it has emerged that Spurs are worried about strong interest from Liverpool, which is why they are also drawing up backup options. Liverpool may even hold an edge over Tottenham.
According to Romano, Semenyo’s release clause will still apply in both January and the summer, but the cost changes. In January, the fee is £60 million plus £5 million in add-ons, while in the summer it drops to just over £50 million. He listed Tottenham, Manchester United, and Liverpool as the three main clubs tracking the Ghanaian, and noted that Liverpool’s positive relationship with Bournemouth could give them an advantage.
On his YouTube channel, Romano explained:
– Bournemouth want to keep Semenyo, but if a club activates the clause or negotiates around it, the Cherries would have to allow him to leave.
– Man United and Tottenham both showed interest last summer.
– Liverpool are seriously considering a move and have been monitoring him closely, helped by their good dealings with Bournemouth in previous transfers.
TEAMtalk also recently reported that Liverpool are currently ahead of Spurs in the chase. However, Tottenham are still pushing hard and are determined not to let Liverpool secure the winger without competition.
Semenyo is also known to be close friends with Tottenham’s Mohammed Kudus, and Spurs may hope their summer signing can help persuade his Ghana teammate to join him in North London.
