Report: Liverpool prepared to offload “outstanding” player at a cut-price fee in January

Harvey Elliott moved to Aston Villa on loan in the summer, but the 22-year-old has struggled to secure a consistent place in their starting XI. At this stage of his development, the England youth international needs regular game time, and it now looks likely that he could return to Liverpool in January.

Liverpool to cut short Elliott’s loan spell

As reported by Football Insider, Liverpool are ready to cancel Elliott’s loan at Aston Villa mid-season and are planning to sell him permanently. Villa had a £35m obligation to buy him if certain conditions were met, but his limited involvement means those terms won’t be triggered. Keeping him at the club for the rest of the campaign appears pointless.

Liverpool are therefore willing to bring him back and move him on for a much lower fee in January. His next destination remains unclear, but a switch abroad could suit him. Despite his lack of minutes this season, Elliott is a highly gifted player with big potential and has already shown flashes of his ability for Liverpool. Several European clubs are monitoring him, and it remains to be seen who will step up to sign him when the window opens.
