Tottenham issue update as their ‘impressive’ goalkeeper puts pen to paper on a new deal at Hotspur Way.
Spurs boast a number of rising talents that fans are eager to see thrive in North London. Many have progressed through the academy system and are now gaining valuable experience out on loan.
Mikey Moore is one of them, having joined Rangers after lifting the UEFA Europa League with Tottenham. Following the academy’s strong success in recent years, the club has remained determined to retain its top young prospects at Hotspur Way.
Dylan Thompson commits to Tottenham
On 20 November, Tottenham confirmed that goalkeeper Dylan Thompson has signed his first professional contract. The 18-year-old has delivered several “impressive” displays for the Under-18s this season and was part of last year’s Under-17 Premier League Cup-winning squad.
This season so far:
Six appearances in the U18 Premier League
Seven goals conceded
Three clean sheets
The deal comes as Spurs continue progressing several Under-16 players into the Under-18 setup for next season.
Harry Hughes is another young talent set to commit his future to the club. The central midfielder, captain of Northern Ireland’s U16s, is currently sidelined with a long-term injury. He follows Solomon Olajide, a left-sided centre-back who is also preparing to extend his stay after making his U18 debut against Birmingham, where he kept a clean sheet.
Thompson is viewed as one of the most promising prospects at the club, and the news of his contract has been warmly received by supporters.
Youngsters stepping up under Thomas Frank
Many academy players who sign their first professional deals do so with hopes of breaking into the senior squad. Thomas Frank has offered opportunities to a few rising stars this season.
Luca Williams-Barnett made his debut in the 3-0 win over Doncaster Rovers, while Dane Scarlett featured in the 4-0 Champions League victory over Copenhagen, winning a penalty in the process.
Despite this, the Danish manager has largely been cautious when turning to the academy. With injuries piling up and a long season ahead, more youngsters could find themselves stepping into the spotlight.
