Lewis family clarify their stance on Tottenham’s ownership after attracting interest from ‘two genuine’ bidders
Tottenham Hotspur have entered an important phase off the field as changes in the club’s hierarchy continue to attract attention.
In recent months, Spurs have made several boardroom adjustments as they aim to re-establish themselves among the elite. Daniel Levy’s exit was the most notable change, with CEO Vinai Venkatesham now overseeing daily operations and Peter Charrington serving as non-executive chairman.
The Lewis family have also tightened their hold on the club, increasing ENIC’s ownership from 86.91% to 87.62%. Despite interest from various groups, Tottenham insist the club is not for sale. A record £4.5bn bid led by Brooklyn Earick was firmly rejected.
According to The Independent, multiple sources claim the Lewis children were once open to selling, although this has always been denied. It’s reported that two genuine approaches have already been dismissed, with Qatar also moving on. Vivienne Lewis, her husband Nick Beucher, and Charles Lewis are said to have fully stepped into the role of Premier League-level executives, quickly learning how one football decision can overshadow billion-dollar business matters.
There is now a belief that the Lewis family want to show greater ambition on the football side. Under Daniel Levy, fans often criticised the board for lacking sporting ambition. But ahead of the January window, ENIC injected £100m into the club and brought back transfer specialist Fabio Paratici.
With tensions long present between supporters and ownership, the coming window may be an opportunity for the club to demonstrate intent — something fans would welcome.
