Liverpool star criticised following a ‘disastrous’ display against Nottingham Forest
Numerous fans took to social media to share their blunt reactions to the player’s showing at Anfield.
Liverpool supporters voiced their frustration after one of the squad produced a “nightmare” display in the Reds’ 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest.
It marked Liverpool’s second Premier League defeat at Anfield this season, with Forest—coached by former Everton manager Sean Dyche—delivering an impressive performance.
Even with Alexander Isak, Mohamed Salah and the returning Alisson in the starting XI, Arne Slot’s men struggled to cope with Forest’s strength and direct threat on the break.
Forest opened the scoring in the 33rd minute through Murillo. Some Liverpool fans argued that Dan Ndoye had obstructed Alisson’s view, but the goal was allowed to stand. According to the Premier League Match Centre, the Forest forward “did not make an action that impacted an opponent”.
Moments later, Forest found the net again, but referee Andy Madley disallowed Igor Jesus’ goal for handball, a decision VAR confirmed, stating that Jesus had “accidentally” handled the ball.
However, Forest got their deserved second just after half-time when Nicolo Savona tucked away Neco Williams’ cutback, silencing the home crowd.
As Liverpool pushed forward and left spaces at the back, Forest capitalised again with 11 minutes remaining, Morgan Gibbs-White adding a third to the joy of the 3,000 travelling fans.
Very few Liverpool players could leave Anfield with their heads held high after such a flat performance, but centre-back Ibrahima Konate drew the most criticism. The French defender was substituted at half-time for Hugo Ekitike after a particularly poor opening 45 minutes.
Supporters quickly expressed their frustration with Konate on social media.
One wrote: “Konate is among the worst defenders in the league this season. Not many regular starters have been worse, honestly.”
Another said: “Konate was an absolute mess in the first half. We need Guéhi through the door on January 1st and should scrap these contract talks with Konate if this is the standard he’s bringing.”
A third fan commented: “Konate has been worse than Lovren for much of this season. Genuinely.”
A fourth added: “Konate needs dropping at this point, he’s genuinely catastrophic. Every goal we concede comes from him.”
James Pearce of The Athletic also described Konate’s first-half performance as a “nightmare”.
Konate has long been linked with a move to Real Madrid, and with his Liverpool contract expiring in June 2026, he will be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with the Spanish giants in January.
