Liverpool Star Criticised Following a “Disastrous” Display Against Nottingham Forest

Liverpool fans shared strong reactions after one of their players delivered what many described as a “nightmare” display during the Reds’ 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest.
The defeat marked Liverpool’s second Premier League setback at Anfield this season, with Sean Dyche’s well-organised Forest side outmuscling Arne Slot’s team throughout the match.
Even with big names like Alexander Isak, Mohamed Salah, and the returning Alisson in the starting XI, Liverpool struggled to cope with Forest’s direct, physical approach, especially on the counter.
Forest opened the scoring in the 33rd minute through Murillo. Some Liverpool supporters argued that Dan Ndoye obstructed Alisson’s view, but the goal was allowed to stand. According to the Premier League Match Centre, the Forest player “did not make an action that impacted an opponent.”
Moments later, Igor Jesus had another goal chalked off for handball, a decision confirmed by VAR after it was judged he had “accidentally” handled the ball.
Forest doubled their lead early in the second half when Nicolo Savona converted Neco Williams’ cutback, stunning the home crowd. As Liverpool pushed forward, their defensive gaps widened, allowing Morgan Gibbs-White to seal the victory with a third goal late on, sending the visiting supporters into celebrations.
Very few Liverpool players came away with credit after such a flat team performance, but centre-back Ibrahima Konaté attracted the most criticism. The France international was substituted at half-time for Hugo Ekitike following a difficult 45 minutes.
Supporters took to social media to voice their frustrations:
One wrote: “Konaté is one of the worst defenders in the league this season. Honestly, not many regular starters have performed worse.”
Another added: “Konaté has been a complete mess in the first half. We need Guéhi as soon as January comes, and this contract extension talk should stop if this is the standard he’s offering.”
A third comment stated: “Konaté has been worse than Lovren for much of the season. Truly.”
A fourth said: “Konaté has to be dropped. He’s been catastrophic. Every goal we concede seems to involve him.”
The Athletic’s James Pearce also described Konaté’s first-half performance as a “nightmare.”
Konaté has been linked with Real Madrid for some time, and with his Liverpool deal expiring in June 2026, he will be free to discuss a pre-contract agreement with the Spanish giants when the January window opens.
