Liverpool Star Criticised Following ‘Nightmare’ Display Against Nottingham Forest
Liverpool fans had plenty to say after one of their players delivered a “nightmare” display in the team’s 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest.
The Reds suffered their second Premier League defeat at Anfield this season, falling to an impressive Forest side coached by former Everton manager Sean Dyche.
Even with Alexander Isak, Mohamed Salah and the returning Alisson in the starting XI, Arne Slot’s men struggled to cope with Forest’s physical approach, especially on the counter.
Forest opened the scoring in the 33rd minute through Murillo. Some Liverpool supporters argued that Dan Ndoye obstructed Alisson’s view, but the goal stood. According to the Premier League Match Centre, the Forest forward “did not make an action that impacted an opponent.”
Moments later, Forest found the net again, only for referee Andy Madley to disallow Igor Jesus’ effort for handball— a call upheld by VAR, which stated Jesus had handled the ball “accidentally.” But Dyche’s team deservedly doubled their lead in the 46th minute when Nicolo Savona fired home Neco Williams’ cutback, leaving Anfield stunned.
As Liverpool pushed forward and left spaces at the back, Forest capitalised once more, with Morgan Gibbs-White adding a third late on to send the 3,000 travelling supporters into raptures.
Very few Liverpool players could take any credit after such a flat display, but fans saved their harshest criticism for centre-back Ibrahima Konate, who was substituted at half-time for Hugo Ekitike.
Supporters quickly voiced their frustrations online. One wrote, “Konate is among the worst defenders in the league this season. Not many regular starters have performed worse.”
Another complained, “Konate was a complete mess in the first half. We need Guéhi through the door on January 1st and should scrap contract talks with Konate if this is the standard he’s offering.”
A third added, “Konate has often been worse than Lovren this season. Seriously.”
A fourth said, “He needs to be dropped now—his form has been disastrous. Every goal we give away seems to come from him.”
James Pearce of The Athletic also described his first-half performance as a “nightmare.”
Konate has been strongly linked with Real Madrid as his Liverpool deal runs until June 2026, meaning he will be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with the Spanish giants once the January window opens.
