Shock Contender Tops Liverpool’s Next Manager Odds as Pressure Mounts on Arne Slot

Arne Slot is facing growing pressure after Liverpool’s record home defeat to Nottingham Forest.
A former Premier League manager has emerged as a surprise candidate to take over at Liverpool if the club opts to dismiss Slot following the Reds’ 3-0 loss at Anfield.
The reigning champions suffered the biggest Premier League defeat in their history on Saturday, extending a miserable run that has seen them win just once in their last seven league matches.
Despite a £450 million summer spending spree, Liverpool now find themselves in the bottom half of the table after 11 games.
It marks a dramatic decline for Slot’s team, who entered the season as title favourites.
Although Liverpool are expected to give the Dutchman more time after delivering the league title in his debut season, the pressure around him is intensifying.
The latest odds now show Jurgen Klopp as the bookmakers’ frontrunner to return as manager.
Klopp spent nearly nine years in charge at Anfield, winning every major trophy available.
He stepped down in 2024, saying he was “running out of energy”, and later took up a new position as Red Bull’s Global Head of Soccer, overseeing their clubs’ football operations.
However, during an appearance on The Diary of a CEO last month, Klopp refused to rule out a Liverpool comeback.
“I’ve said I’ll never coach another English team, so if I ever did come back, it would be Liverpool,” Klopp said. “So yes, in theory, it’s possible.”
Potential Replacements for Slot
Klopp currently leads the betting at 4/1, but Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner is close behind at 5/1.
The Austrian has a strong track record, winning the Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt and guiding Crystal Palace to the FA Cup last season.
He also boasts an impressive recent record against Liverpool, winning their last three meetings.
The third favourite is Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola.
The Spaniard steered the Cherries to a ninth-place finish last season and earned admiration for their attacking football.
Even after losing their goalkeeper and several defenders in the summer, Bournemouth have continued their positive form this campaign.
Other names in the mix include Unai Emery, Julian Nagelsmann and Diego Simeone.
