Liverpool Given Clear Message on Arne Slot’s Future After Forest Loss
iverpool have effectively already been given guidance on what they should do regarding Arne Slot’s future following their disastrous defeat to Nottingham Forest.
The Premier League resumed on Saturday afternoon after a week-long break for the final 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Earlier in the day, Chelsea beat Burnley 2-0 in a controversial early kickoff, and reigning champions Liverpool went into their home clash with Nottingham Forest hoping to relieve some of the pressure created by their dreadful recent form.
But the situation only deteriorated further. Sean Dyche’s side ran out 3-0 winners at Anfield, intensifying the uncertainty surrounding Slot’s position.
The defeat leaves Liverpool 11th in the Premier League standings—closer to the relegation zone than to leaders Arsenal, who were their main title rivals last season.
Across all competitions, Liverpool have now suffered eight defeats in their last 11 matches and five losses in their last six league games. Unsurprisingly, a growing section of supporters is demanding Slot’s dismissal.
However, despite the mounting pressure, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp argues that Slot has earned time after leading Liverpool to the title last season.
“They need to be patient—Arne Slot deserves that after what he achieved last year,” Redknapp said. The former Liverpool midfielder added that the tragic passing of Diogo Jota and the challenge of bedding in new summer signings may also be affecting the team’s performances.
Slot, meanwhile, took full responsibility after the match, shielding his players from blame.
“When things go well or badly, it always comes back to me,” he said. “We didn’t create enough. I made some adjustments that didn’t really work. We couldn’t score. We’re in a very bad spell—it’s as simple as that. But we play in the Champions League again in a few days.”
“Keep our heads up, work extremely hard and try to turn things around. That’s been difficult so far. We have quality players—it’s my job to get the best out of them. I’m not doing that right now, and that’s why I say the responsibility is mine.”
