Virgil van Dijk highlights a key flaw after Liverpool’s loss to Nottingham Forest

Liverpool fell to a shocking 3-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest at Anfield.

It marked their sixth loss in seven Premier League games, and the performance offered Arne Slot and the supporters plenty to worry about.

At no point did the defending champions look like taking control of the match. Despite having Alexander Isak, Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo up front, they posed little attacking threat.

Defensively, both Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk struggled — surprisingly so, given Forest’s own attacking issues this season.

Van Dijk criticises Liverpool’s defending
After another disappointing outing in which Liverpool conceded soft goals and let more points slip away, the captain made his frustration clear.

Speaking after the match, van Dijk said, via Fabrizio Romano:

“We are in a very difficult moment. We have to get out of it. We all take responsibility.

“We concede too many easy goals. They scored from a set piece again. We were not good — in the battles, the second balls.”

His comments echo the frustration of supporters watching Liverpool’s early-season momentum crumble.

Following a strong start, defensive lapses have resurfaced — cheap goals from set pieces and a lack of organisation under pressure, issues reminiscent of the team’s late-Klopp-era struggles.

Van Dijk’s own form under scrutiny
The Dutchman, who hasn’t been at his best this season, stressed that the problems lie with the team as a whole rather than individuals.

His remarks suggest a dressing room that wants to regain its intensity and discipline, though doing so currently looks difficult.

Injuries haven’t helped either. Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley were both sidelined for the Forest clash. Meanwhile, Konate’s form is becoming a major concern.

The French defender was substituted in the second half after another shaky display, but even that failed to steady Liverpool’s defence.
