Tottenham told to sign off Roma loan for ‘unhappy’ Mathys Tel

Mathys Tel’s future at Spurs is uncertain yet again, with Roma reportedly pushing to take the forward on loan in January. The Italian club are eyeing a short-term deal until the summer, impressed by Tel’s versatility and long-term upside.

The 20-year-old is believed to be frustrated by his lack of playing time and is willing to leave if an opportunity comes up. Despite Randal Kolo Muani’s injury opening a path for Tel to return to Tottenham’s Champions League squad, there’s no sign the club intends to reinstate him.

Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King told Tottenham News that Tel’s unhappiness should be more than enough reason to approve the move. “If Frank won’t put him in the Champions League squad, Spurs should let Roma take him so he can play in Europe,” King said. “He’s looked bright recently, but you can’t hold onto a disgruntled player when you’re trying to push on in the Premier League and Europe.”

Solanke comeback could seal Tel’s departure

Dominic Solanke’s nearing a return, which may effectively shut the door on Tel’s minutes for the rest of the season. The young forward has already slipped down the pecking order, with only three league starts this campaign, and Solanke’s availability is set to push him further aside.

Solanke is still Spurs’ most dangerous No. 9, and his comeback will feel like a new weapon for Frank. Once the former Bournemouth striker is back fit, Tel leaving on loan appears almost inevitable.
