Heung-min Son’s debut goal for LAFC after departing Tottenham has officially been crowned Major League Soccer’s Goal of the Year.

The Spurs icon has long been known for scoring spectacular strikes, regularly finding the top corner from distance with either foot. He even claimed the Puskás Award in 2020 for his unforgettable solo run against Burnley. Since joining LAFC, the forward has continued his ruthless goalscoring form, but it was his very first effort for the club that earned him this major honour.

In a twist of irony, given how rarely he scored from dead-ball situations during his decade at Tottenham, Son opened his LAFC account with a superb free-kick. The 33-year-old displayed brilliant technique, curling the ball over the wall and dipping it perfectly beneath the bar.

The strike has been voted the best goal of the entire 2025 MLS season, adding yet another accolade to Son’s illustrious career.
