Harry Kane hints strongly at his future amid links to Barcelona.
Harry Kane has moved to calm any worries among Bayern Munich supporters about his future — doing so twice in the same day.
The England striker first dismissed rumours linking him with Barcelona during an interview with BILD, and later reinforced his stance in his Champions League media duties. Ahead of Bayern’s clash with Arsenal on Wednesday, Kane addressed speculation that Barça see him as Robert Lewandowski’s successor.
“Joining Bayern was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I’m really happy here and open to staying longer,” he said. “We’ll talk about a potential new contract in the coming months. I feel very comfortable with how things are, even though we haven’t discussed anything formally yet.
“There’s no rush. I’m enjoying life in Munich — you can see it in my performances. If discussions start, we’ll see what happens. I’m not thinking about next season right now. The World Cup comes first this summer, and it’s very unlikely anything will change after this season.”
Asked whether Bayern fans should fear losing him, he replied: “No, I don’t think so.”
Kane has scored 109 goals in 114 matches since joining Bayern a little over two years ago, and the club are keen to secure his long-term future.
European football expert Andy Brassell says Bayern are even prepared to break their usual contract policy to keep him. The club typically only offer one-year extensions to players over 30, but Kane is expected to receive a multi-year proposal due to his importance and the threat of interest from Barcelona.
Brassell told talkSPORT: “I’d be shocked if Kane left Bayern. He’s a perfect match for the club, and the club is a perfect match for him. They’re clearly ready to give him more than a one-year extension, which shows how exceptional he’s been on and off the pitch.
“The stats are incredible, yet they still don’t fully capture his impact. And he’d have to take a huge pay cut to join Barcelona anyway.”
Kane is already close to breaking into Bayern’s top 10 all-time scorers thanks to his sensational form this season. His next chance to add to his tally comes against Arsenal at the Emirates.
The former Tottenham star has scored 15 times in 21 appearances against Arsenal in his career. Only one of those goals has come since his move to Germany — when he scored in a 2-2 draw at the Emirates in the Champions League quarter-finals two seasons ago before Bayern progressed with a 1-0 win in the second leg.
