Konaté’s position is under threat after Liverpool submitted a £25m bid for a top-quality signing.
Liverpool are said to have submitted an offer in the region of £25m for Marc Guehi ahead of the January window, according to a well-regarded X (formerly Twitter) source.
The England defender’s contract runs until the summer of 2026.
Alongside the Guehi pursuit, Liverpool are also believed to be weighing up a move for Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo.

A claim circulating on X suggests Liverpool’s opening proposal is “around £25m” plus add-ons. Importantly, Crystal Palace have yet to accept or reject the offer for the centre-half, who Ezri Konsa recently described as “world-class.”
This follows reports that Liverpool had agreed a £35m deal for the player during the summer, only for Palace to pull the plug.
As CEO Steve Parish later explained, keeping Guehi made more sense given the club’s qualification for the Europa Conference League.
> “If the difference between keeping Marc and letting him go was simply finishing between 10th and 14th, we’d probably have taken the money,” Parish told talkSPORT.
“But with European football and our aim to finish in the top half, we felt it was the right call to keep him.”
That logic remains intact. In fact, with Palace currently just one point off the Champions League spots in fifth, they’re arguably even less inclined to cash in on their key defender.
Guehi has been vital this season, posting an impressive 7.46/10 average rating in the league—highlighting why a mid-season sale would severely undermine their push for a record Premier League finish.

Could Bayern or Real Madrid hijack the deal?
Reports suggest Europe’s top clubs increasingly believe Guehi is on course for a Liverpool move.
Christian Falk (CF Bayern Insider) notes that Bayern Munich haven’t fully given up on a transfer, while Real Madrid hold similar views, but both clubs consider Liverpool the frontrunners—either in January or in the summer.
Does Guehi solve Liverpool’s defensive issues?
One concern is that Guehi isn’t dominant in the air. With Liverpool already struggling against long balls and set pieces, adding a 6ft centre-back (compared to Van Dijk and Konaté at 6’4″) doesn’t directly solve those problems.
However, he is composed in possession and has shown greater consistency than Konaté this season.
Liverpool need a defender who remains steady under pressure—and Guehi fits that profile.
That said, Arne Slot still has tactical work to do to stabilise this faltering Liverpool side.
