Curtis Jones Delivers Brutally Honest Criticism of Liverpool After Heavy PSV Defeat
Curtis Jones didn’t hold back as he delivered a blunt, expletive-laced verdict on Liverpool’s latest disastrous performance.
The Reds fell to their ninth defeat in 12 matches on Wednesday night, suffering a 4-1 hammering at Anfield against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.
After being beaten 3-0 by Nottingham Forest at the weekend, Liverpool had hoped to bounce back in Europe – especially after recently defeating Real Madrid. Instead, they conceded early when Ivan Perisic scored from the spot following a Virgil van Dijk handball. Although Dominik Szoboszlai levelled soon after, Arne Slot’s side collapsed after the break, with Guus Til scoring and Couhaib Driouech adding two more.
Liverpool have now shipped seven goals in their last two home games and 16 across their previous seven matches in all competitions, with confidence visibly draining from the squad.
Speaking to RTE Sport after the match, a frustrated Jones admitted he was at a loss for words, saying the team are “in the s***” and describing the situation as “unacceptable.”
“I don’t know, I don’t have the answers – I’m the same as everyone else,” Jones said, clearly dejected. “It’s unacceptable, honestly. I don’t even know what to say anymore. I’ve gone past feeling angry or sad. I’ve reached a point where I just don’t have the words.”
“As both a player and a lifelong fan, I can’t remember a time when we’ve played this poorly or had results like this,” he continued. “But we still wear that badge. As long as we do, we’ll fight to bring the club back to where it should be and remind everyone why Liverpool is the best team in the world. But right now, we’re in a bad place and things have to change.”
Despite spending over £400 million in the summer, Liverpool are enduring their worst run since 1950, with pressure rapidly mounting on Slot and a new frontrunner reportedly emerging to replace him.
Speaking to TNT Sports about the crisis, Slot tried to remain positive: “I want to highlight how the players responded after going 1-0 down because we played well until half time. The only option is to push through this. We have to face our situation and fight hard.”
Liverpool currently sit 13th in their Champions League group after five matches and 12th in the Premier League. They will look to halt their alarming slump when they travel to West Ham on Sunday.
