Liverpool Decide Arne Slot’s Future After PSV Eindhoven Loss

Liverpool, just a season removed from cruising to the Premier League title, suffered yet another setback on Wednesday night. This time, Arne Slot’s side were beaten by PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League, and a new report has outlined the stance the Anfield hierarchy have taken regarding the Dutch manager’s future.
The reigning English champions have now lost nine of their last 12 games in all competitions, with three consecutive defeats by three goals for the first time since December 1953. Their title defence is quickly becoming one of the weakest of the Premier League era, and their European campaign isn’t much brighter either. The 4-1 defeat to PSV leaves them sitting 13th in the Champions League league phase, a position that does not guarantee progression to the knockout rounds.
Liverpool Bosses Make Arne Slot Decision After Champions League Collapse
Despite the dreadful form, Liverpool’s leadership still plan to stick with Slot, who replaced Jurgen Klopp in summer 2024. The report notes, however, that he is under major pressure and that the situation could change if results continue to worsen.
Daily Mail journalist Lewis Steele posted on X (formerly Twitter) that club executives are significantly increasing the pressure on the former Feyenoord boss following the team’s dramatic slump. Even so, he stated that Slot—who is expected to speak to the media at 15:00—still has the backing of those above him.
Sources close to both the club and Slot insist he will not be dismissed at this stage. Liverpool’s hierarchy, who invested heavily in players such as Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak last summer, have not revised their position after the heavy loss to PSV.
Ahead of Sunday’s fixture with West Ham, Liverpool players and staff were reportedly given Friday off following recovery work on Thursday. The plan is to train on Saturday before travelling to London on Sunday.

Slot Questioned Immediately After PSV Defeat
Following the humiliating 4-1 loss, Slot—whose early dismissal would cost Liverpool over £10 million—faced immediate scrutiny from the media regarding his job security.
“I am feeling safe,” he said when asked if he feared for his position, reaffirming that sentiment moments later.
Slot replaced Klopp in the summer of 2024, and last season the team never looked back. Mohamed Salah was in sensational form, and Liverpool dominated their way to the Premier League title. The current campaign has been the complete opposite.
On his future, Slot added:
“I’ve had conversations, but not in the sense of them telling me every minute, ‘We support you.’ We talk whether we’re winning or losing, and they try to help me and the team. They’re not calling constantly to reassure me, but in our normal conversations, I feel their trust. When you lose this many times, it’s normal that people talk about my position.
