Liverpool Reach Verdict on Arne Slot Following PSV Thrashing
Liverpool have now reached a decision regarding Arne Slot’s future following their disastrous Champions League defeat to PSV.
On Wednesday night, the Reds suffered what may be their worst result under Slot, as PSV Eindhoven cruised to a commanding 4-1 victory at Anfield. The loss means Liverpool have now let in seven goals and scored only once across three straight defeats, two of which came at home.
The dismal run has intensified the pressure on Slot, whose job security has been questioned just seven months after guiding Liverpool to the Premier League title. However, the Liverpool boss has now been informed of the board’s stance ahead of their upcoming clash with West Ham United.
Speaking after the PSV match, Slot insisted he wasn’t worried about being sacked, though he acknowledged the need for improvement. “No, I am not concerned. My focus is elsewhere, not on my own position. I need to do better,” he said.
Mail Sport reports that Slot’s confidence is justified, as the Liverpool hierarchy continue to back him, trusting he can reverse their alarming slump. Journalist Lewis Steele added that sources close to both the club and Slot have confirmed this morning that his job remains secure and the PSV defeat has not changed anything.
Slot will speak to the media on Thursday at 3pm ahead of Sunday’s match against West Ham, where questions about his future are expected to continue.
Liverpool’s squad and staff were given Thursday to recover from the Champions League loss and will have Friday off as well.
