Liverpool reach major verdict on Arne Slot after the heavy PSV defeat

Liverpool have reached a firm stance on Arne Slot’s future following their disastrous Champions League defeat to PSV.

The Premier League champions endured one of their worst nights under Slot as PSV Eindhoven cruised to a 4-1 victory at Anfield on Wednesday, exposing the Reds’ alarming dip in form.

The loss means Liverpool have now shipped seven goals and scored just once across three straight defeats — two of which came at home — increasing the scrutiny on Slot only seven months after he lifted the Premier League title.

Despite the growing pressure, the Liverpool boss has now been informed of the club’s decision regarding his role ahead of Sunday’s clash with West Ham United.

After the PSV defeat, Slot insisted he wasn’t concerned about losing his job, saying his focus remained on improving results:
“No, I am not worried. My focus is on other things. I need to do better.”

According to Mail Sport, his confidence appears justified. The Liverpool hierarchy are standing by Slot and believe he can reverse the team’s poor run of results. Reporter Lewis Steele added that sources within the club, as well as those close to Slot, have confirmed his position remains secure and the PSV loss hasn’t changed anything.

Slot is expected to address more questions about his future during Thursday’s 3pm press conference for the West Ham match.

Liverpool’s squad and staff have been granted Thursday to recover from the European fixture and will have Friday off before preparations continue.

Speaking about his situation, Slot reiterated his sense of stability:
“I am feeling safe. I have a lot of support from above. Of course we need to turn it around, but it’s normal that people ask questions when results aren’t good. I’m OK with my position. It’s not the first time I’ve been in a tough spot, but it’s time we changed things.”
