Jamie Carragher has suggested that Arne Slot made a mistake so serious it could justify losing his job following Liverpool’s heavy 4-1 defeat to PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool were comfortably beaten in Wednesday’s Champions League clash. PSV struck early through an Ivan Perisic penalty, and although Dominik Szoboszlai briefly levelled for the hosts, the Dutch side dominated the second half. They exposed Liverpool’s weaknesses with three unanswered goals, including two from Couhaib Driouech.
The performance drew sharp criticism from pundits, with former midfielder Dietmar Hamann blasting Mohamed Salah for what he called a “disgraceful” moment. Carragher, speaking on CBS Sports, was just as scathing—especially regarding the continued selection of Ibrahima Konaté.
In a clip shared by the broadcaster, Carragher is seen venting his frustration, saying Slot’s insistence on playing Konaté is “a sackable offence,” insisting the manager “should be sacked” for repeatedly choosing him.
With three straight defeats, pressure around Slot is growing. Carragher went on to question how secure the manager’s position really is, suggesting the loss to PSV will push many supporters toward doubting whether he is still the right man for the job.
He noted that Liverpool don’t typically dismiss managers—particularly ones who have delivered a league title—and admitted it feels surreal that such conversations are happening given how extraordinary Slot’s first season was.
Liverpool will look to halt their Premier League slump when they face Crystal Palace on Sunday.
