Three Tottenham players who could now be considered surplus to requirements

Tottenham Hotspur have undergone major changes this year. Their Europa League triumph finally ended a 17-year wait for silverware, a new era began with Thomas Frank taking over from Ange Postecoglou, and perhaps most significantly, Daniel Levy stepped down as chairman. Levy had long been heavily involved in transfers and was often criticised by supporters for being overly cautious with spending. With his departure, Spurs may be set to operate differently in the market, which could trigger a squad reshuffle. As a result, three players look increasingly likely to move on.

3 Tottenham players who are now expendable

Yves Bissouma
Bissouma is one of many Brighton players who developed well before being sold for profit. He joined Spurs from Brighton for £25 million after arriving there from Olympique Lyonnais for around £15 million. The midfielder played an important role in Tottenham’s Premier League campaign and contributed to their Europa League success last season. However, a knee injury halted any potential summer transfer. Although linked with West Ham, Juventus, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, it seems improbable that he will feature for Spurs again.

Dominic Solanke
Solanke was also influential in Spurs’ Europa League win, scoring five goals and providing four assists in 13 matches. He added nine goals and three assists in 27 Premier League games. But this season, he managed only two league appearances before suffering an ankle injury. This has allowed Richarlison and Randal Kolo Muani to cement themselves as Thomas Frank’s preferred options up front. Solanke is contracted until 2030, yet a lack of playing time will almost certainly push him toward an exit.
His career began at Chelsea and Liverpool, where he struggled for opportunities. He revived his form at Bournemouth, but at Tottenham, injuries have again prevented him from taking full advantage of his chance at a top Premier League club.

Ben Davies
Ben Davies has been a loyal member of the Spurs squad since joining from Swansea City in 2014. He has made 348 appearances, scoring nine times and assisting 28 goals from left-back. He has not featured this season, appearing on the bench a few times before suffering a hamstring injury. He returned among the substitutes against PSG but did not come on, which would have been a difficult match for his first outing of the campaign.
Despite missing club action, he has continued to play for Wales, earning his 100th cap in a World Cup qualifier against Belgium. Wales are preparing for the playoffs for next summer’s tournament in North America, and Davies would benefit from getting minutes at club level.
With his contract expiring at the end of the season and him now 32, a renewal appears unlikely. Tottenham will, however, ensure a proper farewell for one of their longest-serving players. Spurs could also use his experience soon, having conceded nine goals in their last two matches—four against Arsenal and five against PSG in the Champions League.
