Former Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp is being linked with a shock return to Anfield as details of the club’s contingency plan—should they decide to part ways with Arne Slot—have begun to surface. Despite winning nine of their last 12 games, Liverpool are enduring their worst slump since the 1950s, and Slot, who led them to the title only months ago, is suddenly under serious pressure.

After a huge summer outlay that saw Liverpool twice break the British transfer record to sign Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak for £241 million, many expected the champions to dominate again. Instead, the season has unravelled, and some supporters are already longing for the man who delivered the club’s sixth Champions League crown and ended their 30-year wait for a league title.

Although Liverpool are known for sticking by their managers—including league-winning ones—reports claim the hierarchy have quietly discussed emergency plans. These include bringing Klopp back as an interim coach until the end of the season before pursuing their preferred long-term option: PSG manager Luis Enrique.

According to The Mirror, internal conversations have taken place amid concerns Slot may be losing the dressing room.


Enrique is said to be the club’s chosen long-term successor, even ahead of popular candidate Xabi Alonso. The Spaniard’s stock is high after leading PSG to their first Champions League title and impressing with his people skills, high-pressing approach, and team-first philosophy—traits Liverpool believe align closely with the Klopp blueprint.


Whether Enrique would leave a comfortable and trophy-rich project in Paris, however, remains uncertain.
