Paul Merson tips a draw between Tottenham and Fulham
Despite ongoing debates about Frank’s tactical approach, former Arsenal striker Paul Merson argues it makes little difference because Tottenham rarely manage to secure results regardless of the style they adopt.
Sitting deep against Arsenal led to a convincing defeat, while a more aggressive setup in the Champions League also ended in failure.
Speaking to Sportskeeda, Merson said:
“Tottenham are impossible to predict. Arsenal completely blew them away last weekend—embarrassing for a game of that magnitude. Fans expected effort and fight, but Spurs made things far too easy. Even if they beat Fulham 16–0, it won’t erase that derby result.
“Against PSG, they went ahead twice and still lost 5–3. If they attack, they score three but concede five. If they sit back, they lose heavily like they did against Arsenal. They can’t find the right balance, and that’s worrying.”
He expects another frustrating outing and forecasts Tottenham 1–1 Fulham, noting that Spurs have struggled at home and often panic when required to take control of a match.
Spurs urgently need a league win
Tottenham’s poor run has dropped them to ninth in the Premier League, yet they remain just two points behind fifth-placed Crystal Palace. They are also only two points clear of 13th-placed Brentford, meaning this weekend’s result could dramatically influence their position in the table.
A victory is crucial if Spurs hope to re-establish momentum and keep pace with the clubs currently occupying Champions League qualification spots.
