Liverpool might replace one of their main players with a 25-year-old because they don’t trust him anymore.

Liverpool could move on from Federico Chiesa in January, with Antoine Semenyo emerging as a possible replacement.

Chiesa’s situation at Liverpool has become a major topic lately. Despite a bright start to the season, the Italian winger hasn’t been getting consistent minutes under Arne Slot. Because of this, several top clubs — especially in Serie A — are now interested in bringing him back.

Liverpool open to selling Chiesa
According to Pete O’Rourke (via Football Insider), Liverpool may decide to cash in on the 28-year-old if the right offer arrives. But the club will only approve his exit once a suitable replacement is secured. Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo is currently their preferred option.

Chiesa had the chance to leave last summer after a disappointing campaign, but he chose to stay and fight for a bigger role. Unfortunately, things haven’t gone as he hoped.

Not fully trusted by Arne Slot
Although he showed flashes early in the season, Chiesa has remained a fringe player. He has featured in 14 matches in all competitions but has only played 380 minutes and made just two starts — both in the EFL Cup.
O’Rourke notes that Slot doesn’t seem to fully trust him, even though some fans want to see him used more often.

He believes Chiesa will only be allowed to leave if Liverpool secure a replacement, and Semenyo is viewed as the leading candidate to take his place.

Could a January exit happen?
Italian clubs are expected to attempt a move in January. While Chiesa is happy at Liverpool, he might be open to a transfer if it improves his chances of earning a place in Italy’s World Cup squad.

Liverpool could sell him for the right fee, especially since he is not central to their long-term plans. But the deal depends on finding a new attacker — and Semenyo’s Premier League form makes him a serious option.
