In recent months, there has been plenty of talk about Tottenham’s bold intentions for the January window. ENIC have injected £100m into the club, and many assumed that money would be used once the market opens.

Some reports have claimed Spurs are preparing ambitious moves to show their intent, but a former club staff member is not convinced.
Tottenham unlikely to grant Thomas Frank’s full January wishes

Former Spurs scout Mick Brown has revealed that Thomas Frank is pushing for major changes to the squad when January arrives. However, he believes the club will only do limited business and are not prepared to give the head coach significant backing due to concerns over his style of play.

Brown told Football Insider:
“Thomas Frank wants big changes to his squad. There are certain positions where the current options are not good enough for where Tottenham want to be long-term. Like any new manager, he wants players who fit his approach, but I think he’ll be going against the grain. I don’t think there are plans to spend heavily.

“They’ll make a few moves in key areas, but if he’s expecting major activity across the pitch, he’ll be waiting a long time. He wants players suited to his more defensive, pragmatic system, but there are already doubts about that, so it would surprise me if the club chose to overhaul the squad, even if that’s what he wants.”

Frank targeting four positions in January

According to Flashscore, Frank hopes to bring in a forward, a left-sided centre-back, a midfielder, and a goalkeeper in the winter window. The report noted that strengthening all four positions is unlikely.

The Telegraph also reported that Tottenham will focus on adding either a left-winger or a striker in January and will aim for signings who can immediately improve the starting XI.
