Liverpool linked with a shock proposal that could see Florian Wirtz head to Real Madrid in a blockbuster swap move.

Liverpool are being backed to consider a sensational swap deal that would send Florian Wirtz to Real Madrid.
The German playmaker arrived at Anfield from Bayer Leverkusen for around £100 million in July, beating both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich to his signature. But despite the hype, he’s yet to register a goal or assist in his first 11 Premier League appearances.
Wirtz has also missed Liverpool’s last two fixtures after picking up a muscle injury on international duty. While his underlying numbers remain solid — he ranks 20th in the Premier League for chances created and continues to impress for Germany — his form has been questioned as Liverpool struggle for results.
Now, ex-Barcelona and Spain midfielder Gaizka Mendieta has suggested Liverpool should consider sending Wirtz to Real Madrid in a swap for their unsettled star Vinicius Junior.
Vinicius, runner-up in the 2024 Ballon d’Or, is reportedly refusing a new contract due to tension with manager Xabi Alonso — who himself has been linked with the Liverpool job if Arne Slot departs.
Speaking to Casinostugan, Mendieta floated the idea:
“Wirtz and Vinicius in a swap deal? Why not? I can see Wirtz fitting Real Madrid more than Vinicius at Liverpool right now. Coaches often push to reunite with players they trust, and Alonso knows how to get the best out of Wirtz.”
He argued that although Real’s midfield is crowded, Wirtz could still thrive there, while Vinicius could shine in the Premier League if given full backing from his club.
