Pedro Porro Sparks Outrage After Shouting at Bergvall Following Spurs’ 2-1 Loss to Fulham
Pedro Porro has drawn the ire of Tottenham fans after his behaviour at the final whistle of their 2-1 defeat to Fulham. The Spanish defender appeared furious with teammate Lucas Bergvall, confronting and shouting at him as the match ended.
Spurs collapsed early, conceding twice within six chaotic minutes. Kenny Tete’s deflected effort put Fulham ahead inside four minutes, and Harry Wilson doubled the lead shortly after when he punished a costly error from goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.
Though Mohammed Kudus pulled one back for Thomas Frank’s side in the second half, Tottenham failed to find an equaliser. It marked their fourth league defeat in six matches, leaving them sitting 10th in the Premier League table.
Home fans booed after the final whistle, and tensions spilled onto the pitch. Stadium footage showed Porro shouting at Bergvall as the youngster made his way around the pitch to applaud the supporters. Porro appeared intent on heading straight down the tunnel, while Bergvall felt the fans still present deserved acknowledgement.
Porro hovered near the centre circle, calling out to Bergvall before moving toward him, only to be nudged away by Pape Matar Sarr. Moments later, Porro walked off the pitch and headed directly for the tunnel without clapping the crowd. This comes just weeks after Micky van de Ven and Djed Spence bypassed Thomas Frank and stormed down the tunnel after defeat to Chelsea.
Asked about the altercation, Frank said he had not witnessed it but stressed that the team must remain composed during difficult spells. “We are in a tough spell right now and for my players it is about being as calm as possible and doing everything we can to work through it,” he said.
Fans React Angrily
Although Frank didn’t see the exchange, the footage quickly spread online, prompting strong reactions from supporters. Many defended Bergvall, with one accusing Porro of “bullying” the young midfielder. Another said the behaviour was “unacceptable,” while some argued the club would be better off without the Spaniard, criticising both his ability and attitude.
Others pointed to the incident as further evidence of unrest within the squad, especially following recent frustrations involving Van de Ven and Spence. One fan remarked: “Frank is making the dressing room implode on each other.” Another added: “That dressing room is tense.”
Looking Ahead
Porro, now in his third season with Spurs after joining from Sporting CP in 2023, was part of the squad that won the Europa League last season. But Tottenham’s current form has raised concerns as they enter a congested December schedule.
There is little time to recover from the Fulham defeat, with Spurs travelling to St James’ Park to face Newcastle after just three days’ rest. Eddie Howe’s side arrive in strong form following a 4-1 win at Everton, sitting level with Spurs on 18 points. Tuesday’s match offers both teams a chance to break into the top half of the Premier League table.
