Pressure is mounting at Anfield. Liverpool manager Arne Slot is facing increasing criticism as the Reds endure one of their worst runs in decades. Rumours now claim the club is weighing up a shocking reunion with former boss Brendan Rodgers.
Expectations were enormous after Slot delivered a Premier League title in his first season and strengthened the squad over the summer. But the 2025–26 campaign has gone badly off course. Liverpool have dropped nine of their last twelve games across all competitions—a collapse the club hasn’t seen in more than 70 years. Spanish outlet Fichajes reports that Rodgers and Andoni Iraola are already being considered as possible replacements.
Rodgers, who led Liverpool before Jürgen Klopp’s arrival, is said to be open to a return if approached. The appeal is obvious: he knows the club’s inner workings, understands the pressures of the job, and might provide stability in the short term to steady a sinking ship.
The real question, however, is whether he would be seen as a long-term solution or simply a temporary fix while Liverpool search for a more permanent answer.
His familiarity with Liverpool’s culture, expectations, and the Anfield environment could make for a smoother transition and boost morale among players and supporters. Choosing a manager who already knows the club would also minimise adjustment time compared to hiring someone completely new. Still, a Rodgers comeback is far from certain.
Slot retains the backing of the club’s owners, and they hope the recent 2–0 win away at West Ham United—featuring new signing Alexander Isak’s first Premier League goal—will help rebuild confidence during this difficult spell.
It’s also worth noting that Rodgers was sacked by Liverpool in 2015, a sign that he previously failed to deliver sustained long-term success. Bringing him back could easily be viewed as a step backwards rather than progress.
For now, while Slot is struggling in both the league and the Champions League, talk of Rodgers returning remains nothing more than media speculation.
