Liverpool’s recent form has come under heavy scrutiny, but a message from a familiar figure has introduced an unexpected voice to the discussion.

Darwin Núñez shared the word “Resiliencia” on X, alongside a photo of him celebrating for Uruguay with his fingers in his ears. The 26-year-old used this same gesture twice during his Liverpool spell, usually when he wanted to block out surrounding noise.

His latest post appeared just hours after the loss to PSV extended our run of defeats, making the timing impossible to overlook.

The former Benfica forward has consistently used that word to express defiance.

Last season in the Champions League, he wrote: “They are not all, they are some. Thank you Reds for your support, we are all still together!” and ended with “Resiliencia,” emphasising his determination to prove doubters wrong. Earlier in his Anfield career, he responded to mocking videos with that same single word, a sign of his belief that perseverance would eventually pay off.

These examples naturally bring back memories of how the Uruguayan dealt with criticism while wearing our No. 9 shirt. Given the timing of the new post, it’s hard not to interpret it as a message aimed at his former teammates.

We are currently enduring our worst run since the 1950s, losing nine of our last twelve matches in all competitions.

The team needs every ounce of encouragement as we try to move past this rough spell, and the ex-Liverpool striker’s message feels like a call to rally those still in the dressing room. Arne Slot, now in his second season, delivered the Premier League title only months ago, but we have struggled to recapture that momentum.

With the squad losing experience, enduring personal tragedies, and dealing with major changes, it’s no surprise that composure and confidence have become major themes.

That’s why Núñez’s message stands out.

He was often criticised for being raw or inconsistent, but his determination was never in doubt — and that fighting spirit is something we desperately need right now.

Intentional or not, his one-word post comes at a moment when resilience is exactly what this team requires.
