A Tottenham first-team regular is “not enjoying his time” at the club and is eager to leave, with his agent reopening transfer talks. Inter Milan have identified Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario as a major target for next summer, as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport.

Yann Sommer remains Inter’s first-choice keeper, with Josep Martínez as his backup, but Martínez has been dealing with issues away from the pitch. Sommer turns 37 in December and his contract runs out in June, meaning he is expected to depart at the end of the season. Inter view Vicario as his successor.

The Italian club had attempted to sign Vicario in 2023 while he was at Empoli, but he chose Tottenham over the Nerazzurri. Now, however, the goalkeeper is said to “want to return” to Italy.

Vicario has kept his position as Tottenham’s No.1 under Thomas Frank, but Spurs have struggled this campaign, winning just five of their 13 league outings. The Italy international’s recent mistake in the 2-1 defeat to Fulham highlighted his difficult spell. He is described as not having a “good time” in London and has decided he wants to go back home, prompting his agent to reopen communication with Inter.

He currently earns around £2.5m (€2.85m) net per season at Tottenham, a salary Inter could manage, though there are other hurdles. The club must convince owners Oaktree to approve a €30m outlay for Vicario, who turned 29 in October and is under contract until 2028. There is also no guarantee Tottenham would agree to sell at that price.

Inter’s strategy typically focuses on younger players with resale value, meaning Vicario would be an exception. Additionally, the club must navigate negotiations with Tottenham sporting director Fabio Paratici, who is described as “not the best friend” of Inter’s hierarchy.
